P.D. Rains
Brent Burns and Catfish Flats performed at a benefit concert for P.D. Rains on February 18, 2006. A member of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division, P.D. Rains arrived at Walter Reed on Jan. 10, one week after he was injured by the bomb blast in southern Baghdad. Rains said in a previous interview that his platoon had just completed a raid on a farmhouse that had been a haven for insurgents when the bomb -- what appeared to be a 155 mm artillery shell reconstructed into an improvised explosive device -- exploded near him, breaking bones, rupturing his ear drums and riddling his body with shrapnel.

"Livin’ the Life (Jimmy Buffet Only Wrote About)" is the aptly named album to introduce singer composer Brent Burns to an Australian audience eager for fun in the sun beach music from the States. Burns has had a great deal of national airplay for the album, especially for If It’s Snowbird Season, Why Can’t We Shoot ‘em?® Burns, a disabled Viet Nam veteran, is always looking for ways to give back to the global community. He does regular benefits for Habitat for Humanity and other U.S. charities. When he scheduled a vacation "Down Under" he called his publicist and said, "I would like to do a benefit for a charity in Australia." Brent’s publicist, Carole Bartholomeaux, BARTHOLOMEAUX/Public Relations, Inc., is also the publicist for author Clive Cussler and his 501C3 non-profit, the National Underwater & Marine Agency. Bartholomeaux had just been chatting with Wayne Sampey of NUMA Australia, looking for ways to raise money to search for missing ships off the Australian coast. Bartholomeaux put Sampey in touch with Burns and history will be made when Burns does two concerts in August to benefit NUMA Australia. All proceeds from the concerts will be donated to NUMA Australia. Burns only income will come from sale of CD’s, T-shirts, baseball caps and mugs. "When Carole suggested this to me, and referred me to Brent’s web site I knew this was something that was workable for NUMA Australia," Sampey explained. "I could not believe that Brent would be willing to perform for NUMA essentially for free. We are very excited about these events." Click here to see photos of Brent's Australian adventure. |
