About The Songs

MARGARITA SMILE
Who hasn’t been at work (except me!) and anticipated that first cocktail and that warm glow and relaxation it brings? A Margarita Smile is that silly little grin that I get after more than one margarita!

NURSE RAMBO
True story except it was serious stuff when it happened. This guy was acting crazy. Crazy people with guns pointed at me make me very scared. Remember, I was shot twice in Vietnam.

PARROTHEAD RENDEZVOUS
This is a tribute to all my Parrothead friends who like original beach music as well as Jimmy Buffett. I’ve always loved their slogan, "Party with a purpose." Parrotheads have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for others. For this, I tip my funny lookin’ hat!

TRAILER PARK SEXY
I knew this waitress here in Gulf Shores who although hard and trashy was also kind of sexy, trailer park sexy. You wouldn’t want to take her home to Momma, but a long weekend might be fun! Sorry! Anyway, Bill Whyte and I were writing and he took off with this idea. I was in one room drinking coffee and he was writing the song. I helped out with the music and a few lines, but Bill did the yeoman work here.

BAREFOOT HOLIDAY
Nothing better than a vacation that requires no shoes!

PINK FLAMINGO BLUES
Anne Reeves (Aloha Betty) sent this idea down with Jim Allison. We took Anne’s lines and ideas and Jim’s music and wrote what is pretty rockin’ for me!

CHAMPAGNE IN A PAPER CUP
I wrote this song many years ago, but it remains one of my very best works and a personal favorite. I’ve recorded it three times and its been recorded a few times by other unknown artists. I think this recording finally captures the correct feel and groove for this very simple song.

I THINK I’M GOIN’ BLONDE
I know this one is not that funny to some of my blonde female friends, but it still makes me laugh. Or is that giggle?

LOVE IS A SLIPPERY SLOPE
As I wrote this one, I was thinking about how Hoyt Axton would write it. He was one of my favorite songwriters and I think this represents his style a little.

HIT THE BEACH
In this story, the protagonist chooses to hit the beach instead of murdering the antagonist, his boss. Good choice I think!

LONELY HEARTS CLUB
Just one of my songs about being in one of my favorite places, a bar, but being trapped there too long. A song with a dream sequence.

THE DO DO SONG
Okay. This one’s impossible to explain except when you’re writing with people it sometimes gets bizarre. I don’t know. You get a little tired. Flaky. Too much caffeine. This is what happens in a weak moment. No matter what this guy does, his life is ….. you know, do do from cradle to grave and then some.
